Locking Through on the Charles Mercer Everyone,

The Friends of the Historic Great Falls Tavern has actively supported restoring the C&O Tavern and canal since 1973, with many major accomplishments, including fundraising and the maintenance of the Charles Mercer Canal Boat and restoration of Swains Lockhouse.  This website and its previous versions documented those events.

Now, Friends of the Historic Great Falls Tavern is merging with th C&O Canal Trust to continue its vision as articulated in the founding articles of incorportation:

• To carry on educational and research projects in the public interest relating to the furtherance of the work of the National Park Service as it relates to the preservation and development of the C&O Canal National Historical Park, and more specifically, to the use and improvement of the Great Falls Tavern.... and all related lock-houses along the length of the C&O canal.
• It is the further intent to puruse the historic, scenic, educational, scientific, and cultural relations devoted to the preseration of a great national treasure for the benefit of the people of our nation.
